I’ve made no secret that I am a huge fan of MMP’s Grand Tactical Series. For me it is the perfect fit of historical flavor with a robust game system. So you can imagine how thrilled I was when Operation Mercury: The Invasion of Crete showed up at my door recently.
There are a number of things that have me excited about the game. Having playtested it at Consim World Expo 2014, I knew it was going to keep the “Grand” in GTS with a large footprint covering the whole Crete operation. I also knew from a bit more playtesting and rules proofing that Joe Chacon’s design kept the essence of the operation and the GTS series but without too many additional Exclusive Rules. I think The Greatest Day went overboard in this regard in a few areas (although it is still outstanding).
For now, I’m just ogling the contents and clipping counters. When my gaming dance card clears up a bit I hope to dive in with both feet.
