Wow, we had a great time at the auction last night. My buddy Kris and I drove up (getting a bit lost while we talked about games in the car). We even saw Joel there from our Fair Game group. Although it sounds like he has been going for awhile now.
Games Plus was packed, almost uncomfortably so. That was made bearable by an overabundance of games and a well run auction.
I was pretty pleased with my haul picking up Labyrinth, WW2:Barbarossa to Berlin, and 2nd Fleet.
Labyrinth ($38) – I didn’t even really expect this one to be up for auction considering it is so new, but there were two copies in the auction overall. I lost out on the first one that went for $36 but got this one for a bit more. It is in about as good condition as you can find for an opened box. Pristine really. GMT has announced a reprint of this game coming out in a few weeks, but having already had the bug on this one I couldn’t pass up a good deal.
Barbarossa to Berlin ($24) – There were 3 or 4 copies of this game available and I picked up the second one that went up. I knew enough about GMT’s card driven games to get excited about at least one of them. The Civil War and WWI versions were widely available as well. However, I had my eye on Barbarossa to Berlin given my affinity for WWI. This copy was unpunched and pristine. The card were still even in the wrap. My only letdown is the included map is unmounted and unimpressive overall. GMT sells a mounted board I could see myself buying if this one gets the the table often enough. Looknig forward to giving it a go.
2nd Fleet ($22) – A bit of an impulse buy on this one. As Kris and I were talking that night, we discovered a common affinity for the earlier Tom Clancy books and WWIII style game themes. I researched 2nd Fleet on eBay over they years but was always turned off by the asking price. There were also about three copies of this one. I think I needed up with the second one that came along. Used, but good condition. We’re also talking about 600 counters and a pretty hefty rulebook so there’s a lot of ramp up time on this one it seems. Glad I picked it up.
Overall a great night and I highly recommend check ing out the auctions at Games Plus if you haven’t done so. There are savings to be had on great games!
