I participated in a face-to-face game of GMT’s Churchill yesterday. While it was a learning game, it was easy to pick up mechanics-wise. Strategy may be another story though!
I played as Stalin. The Big Three were unable to prosecute the war effectively and neither Axis power surrendered. We ended up with a Condition 3 end but the resulting dice rolls didn’t result in any change of position. In the end, the UK beat USA and USSR 44-29-26.
I was struck by how elegant the design is in it balance and the multitude of moving pieces. It will be interesting to see how strategies develop over time.
I’m looking forward to getting my own copy once a reprint comes out. Another stellar game from Mark Herman. I’m not sure this qualifies as a CDG given it lacks the points vs. Event choice but it is great nonetheless.
